Paws & Patios: Dog-Friendly Dining in San Clemente

If there's one thing San Clemente does really well (besides sunshine and surfing), it's welcoming dogs, and honestly, we are here for it! If you're anything like me, your pup isn't just a pet. They're your constant companion, your brunch date, your "just one quick stop" buddy who somehow ends up everywhere with you.

Take a stroll down Avenida Del Mar and you'll see exactly what I mean: tails wagging under café tables, happy pups soaking up the attention, and water bowls just as common as coffee cups or cold pints. It's that kind of town.

Whether you're craving a fresh salad, tacos, or a really great (local) burger, we've rounded up some of our favorite dog-friendly spots where your sidekick is welcome.

A note before you go:
pet policies can vary by location, so it's always worth a quick check before you head out. Service animals are permitted in accordance with regulations. And please be a good human; keep your dog leashed and well-behaved so everyone at the table, two-legged and four, can have a great time.

Docent Brewing

123 Avenida Del Mar

A true Del Mar gem, Docent Brewing is the kind of place that instantly feels like home, especially when you roll up with your pup. Their outdoor patio is a perfect spot for sipping a craft beer (the Double Nickels Pale Ale gets rave reviews) while your dog soaks up all the compliments they deserve. The food menu is legit for a brewery - think Korean reuben sandwiches, al pastor tacos, and smash burgers that people drive across town for. Friendly staff, great people watching, and a tap list for every palate. Grab a deck of cards at the bar for a social game of blackjack!

The Cellar

156 Avenida Del Mar

Equal parts charming wine bar, coffee shop, and brunch destination, The Cellar's parklet on Del Mar is the kind of spot that instantly makes you exhale. Let your dog settle at your feet as you sip a glass of rosé and take in the lively bustle of downtown. The truffle popcorn and Spanish olives are exactly the kind of elevated snacking we all deserve.

Open early at 7 am for coffee and rolling through to dinner and cocktails, The Cellar fits seamlessly into whatever your day looks like. Morning pup walks for a latte? Perfect. Sunset cocktail after a beach afternoon? Even better. However you find your way here, you'll be glad you did.

Nomads Canteen

102 Avenida Cabrillo

This local surf hangout runs on good vibes, and that welcoming energy extends right to the dog-friendly outdoor seating. With great poke bowls and an impressive tequila selection, Nomad's is the go-to for locals who want something a little more low-key without sacrificing flavor or fun.

There's no pretense here, just great food, cold drinks, and the kind of energy that makes you want to linger a little longer. Your pup will feel right at home too, soaking up the San Clemente sunshine right alongside you. No fuss, just a really good time. And before you head out, make sure to check out El Jefe's vintage surfboard collection. It's worth a look!

Los Molinos

151 Calle de Los Molinos

Los Molinos Brewery — started by locals and located in San Clemente's oldest industrial park — is a community-focused micro brewery where you and your dog are always welcome. Their indoor/outdoor space means you can enjoy the sunshine year-round.  So grab a picnic table and a cold pint and enjoy the local energy.  With live music, trivia nights, and Taco Tuesday specials, there's always something going on.  Your dog will love the people-watching just as much as you love the craft beer.

Riders Club Cafe

1701 N El Camino Real

The Riders Club Cafe has one mission: delivering the best burger in Orange County. Along with a great selection of craft beers, every detail reflects their love of bold flavor and laid-back living. And they've got the vegetarians covered too, so don't sleep on the loaded veggie patty!

Best of all, enjoy it with a view of Catalina from the dog-friendly patio, which means no one gets left behind! Whether you're a San Clemente local or just passing through on the 5, Riders Club Cafe is a must-stop for great burgers and great vibes. Bring the dog, bring the family, and bring your appetite.

Coastal Cowboy CA Eats

214 Avenida Del Mar

Welcome to one of Del Mar’s newest and most fun additions! Opening their doors in 2025, Coastal Cowboy CA Eats has outdoor seating right on the strip and a menu that’ll make your tail wag. We’re talking brisket tacos, Asian crunch salads, cowboy caviar, and club sandwiches. Bonus points: they offer gluten-free buns and bread, so nobody gets left out at this rodeo. This San Clemente family-owned spot is serving up refined fast casual that blends the rustic heart of cowboy cooking with the freshness of the coast.

Looking for a dining buddy of your very own? Your new best friend could be waiting for you right now at the San Clemente Dana Point Animal Shelter. You could give a deserving dog their forever home…and the first of many patio dinners together.
